SRGTC Donington - Another Class Win for C23R

The Mamba C23R's season progressed further at the 750MC meeting at Donnington Park on 13/14th May. The C23R qualified in 8th and finished 4th overall and 1st in class for the second time in 2 weeks.

This was the fourth outing of the 2006 season and performance just keeps on improving. The keenest competiton so far this season saw the C23R in a field of 26 and competing against five Crossles, running in the Sports Racing and GT Challenge. The SRGTC events are classified using a power:weight ratio and the 575kg C23R producing 225bhp competes in Class B, predominantly alongside the Crossles and Morgans.

The weather was somewhat disappointing, with the track being soaked during practice in the morning and then drying out for the race in the afternoon.
In torrential rain Ken put in a brilliant drive to qualify 8th on the grid and ahead of the chasing Crossles.

8th to 5th? - Easy with this much traction!

Pass a Morgan V8 Uphill? - Easy with this much torque!

The rain had cleared by mid afternoon and the race prior to ours, effectively dried the track: albeit there was no rubber on it.

Ken proved that his fine start in the previous event was no fluke and he had moved up 3 positions, to 5th, by the time he was exiting the long first corner.

For the first half of the race Ken was largely able to dictate his pace and steer clear of trouble but during the second half as he started to lap other competitors he had to avoid several 'spinners' (although no rain had fallen during the race, the track was still relatively slippery).

Ken used his vast racing experience to stay out of trouble and pace himself home to a fine 5th position overall, behind a quartet of 500+bhp Cobras, and finish 1st in class for the second time in 2 weeks.

The short video clip shows the C23R passing one of the Morgans and clearly demonstrates the superb handling of the C23R as Ken lines him up going into the the 'Old Hairpin' and then demonstrates the excellent torque of the Duratec engine as he accelerates away (listen for the up-shift).

Superb meeting and still more to come for next time out.
